Villagers and Lio Mato health clinic staff held gotong-royong to repair some parts of the road in the village in May this year.
MIRI (Aug 27): Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak has urged relevant agencies to carry out immediate repair on the road in Kampung Lio Mato, Ulu Baram. which has become impassable for vehicles, especially during rainy seasons.
Its chairman Roland Engan said that he has been receiving complaints from villagers urging for immediate action, especially when patients are unable to be referred to Miri Hospital due to the conditions of the road.
“I was made to understand that the health clinic in Lio Mato is facing problem sending patients to Miri because of the road condition.
“Sometimes, they have to wait until the muddy and slippery road dries up before sending off their patients who need referral at Miri Hospital,” he said in a press statement.
He added that there are three government facilities in Lio Mato namely a school, a clinic as well as an agriculture office.
The road in Lio Mato is slippery and dangerous especially during rainy seasons.
The clinic caters to villagers from the Kenyah and Penan communities, not just from Lio Mato, but also Long Selaan, Serongo, Long Tungan as well as Long Semiyang.
Kampung Lio Mato is located some nine-hours journey by four-wheel-drive (4WD) from Miri city using logging roads.
