Plant fire at Samalaju Industrial Park leaves 10 injured

Wan Kamarudin says the fire was successfully controlled and extinguished by the factory’s Emergency Response Team before the arrival of Bomba personnel.

BINTULU (Aug 14): Ten people were injured, with four suffering burns, after a fire broke out at the bottom reactor tank of a plant in Samalaju Industrial Park here today.

Fire and Rescue Department Bintulu chief Wan Kamarudin Wan Ahmad said personnel from the Samalaju fire station were rushed to the location upon receiving a distress call at 6.24pm.

“Initial information indicated the fire involved the bottom reactor. The fire was successfully controlled and extinguished by the factory’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) before the arrival of Bomba personnel,” he said in a statement.

He added that the factory’s ERT was still conducting cooling operations at the scene.

“All of the injured individuals have been transported to Bintulu Hospital for treatment,” he said, without providing details on who the injured were, or the severity of their injuries.
