KUCHING, 14 September: Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is conducting a thorough investigation into the helicopter crash at Long Lellang including investigating the last location of the helicopter's refuelling and its overall flight chronology.
Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the police were still recording witness statements including at the location of the helicopter that was refueling to obtain information that could help with the investigation.
"Everything from the start of the flight to the incident will be closely monitored including the timeline of flights and places they went to help with this investigation", he said as he met the media at Mesra Dinner Meeting with CP Sarawak.
According to him, a total of 19 individuals have been called to testify so far, while more witnesses may be called if necessary.
Mohamad Zainal said that all aspects related to the disaster were also examined to ensure a comprehensive investigation was conducted.
"So far, there's been no sign of any elements other than an accident. But nevertheless, we continue to conduct a thorough investigation because it is our usual procedure", he said.
He said the duration of the investigation depends on the amount of evidence to be recorded and the locations still to be revisited.
"However, we will prepare as soon as possible because this is not the first incident that we are investigating. So we have experience, God willing we will do our best", he explained.
Commenting on the possibility that the helicopter had landed, Mohamad Zainal said he believed the pilot had made every effort to land the helicopter.
"I believe that the captain or the pilot had made every effort to land the helicopter so he was right at the end of the runway", she said.
