Police hunt hit-and-run driver

SELANGAU: Police are on the lookout for the driver of a Mitsubishi Pajero involved in a deadly collision that resulted in the death of a senior citizen on Jalan Pan Borneo Sibu-Bintulu today (Aug 11).

Mukah OCPD DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said that after the incident, which occurred at KM86, the driver of the SUV fled the scene and has not yet reported to the police.

“We are actively searching for the SUV driver, who escaped after the accident,” Rizal said in a statement.
“We urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Insp Mohd Rahmat Jalimin at 011-31627137 or the nearest police station to aid in the investigation.”

The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The crash happened when a Proton Iswara, driven by a 64-year-old man from Bintulu to Selangau town, was rear-ended by the SUV.

The collision resulted in the death of 65-year-old Dijah Lalei, who was in the back seat of the Iswara, at the scene.

The driver and the front seat passenger, a 61-year-old woman, both emerged without injuries. Rizal added that the trio in the Proton Iswara are vegetable sellers at the Pasar Tamu in Selangau town.
