Police seize drugs worth RM10,001 in special ops

LAWAS: Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) seized RM10,001.50 worth of drugs during a special screening operation in the Lawas district from July 28 to Aug 1 this year.

According to Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, this operation involved 77 inspections across seven villages, two residential areas, and two public spaces.

“The drugs seized comprised 88.75 grammes of methamphetamine, 3.7 grammes of cannabis, and 0.64 grammes of ketamine and the quantity of drugs confiscated could have served approximately 500 drug users,” he said.

“The objectives of the special operation were to detect and apprehend drug dealers, dismantle drug abuse hotspots, take action against habitual drug users, and implement preventive measures against identified drug traffickers.

“During the operation, 39 individuals aged between 23 and 52 were arrested for various drug-related offences. Among those arrested were two drug dealers, 31 drug users, and six individuals for other offences,” he said.

These arrests were made under several sections of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, including one individual under Section 39B, one individual under Section 39A(2), five individuals under Section 12(2), one individual under Section 6, and 31 individuals under Section 15(1)(a).

From January 1 to July 31 this year, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Sarawak conducted 6,673 arrests, including 338 drug dealers, and seized various types of drugs worth RM12,352,059.22.

Additionally, assets suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking worth RM3,204,633.15 were confiscated.

The PDRM, particularly the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, remains committed to combating drug trafficking and abuse. The police urged the public to continue providing information on drug activities in their surroundings. Information can be reported via the NCID hotline at 012-2087222.
