SIBU (July 20): Prayer United Sarawak Central Zone is holding a trilingual prayer programme, beginning today, taking place at Xin Fu Yuan Methodist Church here, and also the nearby Good Shepherd Centre.
According to the organiser, the event is being run in connection with this year’s Sarawak Day, marking the 61st anniversary of the state attaining self-governance.
“This year’s theme for the celebration, ‘Rebuild, Restore and Renew, is based on the message taken from Isaiah 61:4 in the Old Testament.
“It is a two-pronged approach – the first being prayers for our Fairland Sarawak, and the second, the prayers for the church.
“For Sarawak, we shall continue to pray to bless our state and for Sarawakians to continue to rebuild trust and relationship among the diverse communities in our society; to restore our faith in one another, our hope for the future; and to nurture a community where everyone feels valued and included; and finally, to renew our dedication to Sarawak’s growth and development and to cultivate a spirit of renewal towards achieving our dreams for a brighter and even more harmonious Sarawak.
“For the Church, we shall pray for the Christians to rebuild, restore and renew their own spiritual life to grow even stronger. In this regard, we are inviting witnesses from the Bario and Ba Kelalan Revivals, which occurred in the 1970s, to share with us their spiritual experiences during the gathering.
“It is hoped that their sharing would inspire the Christians in Sarawak to achieve the theme for this year’s celebration,” the organiser said in a statement.
