Predawn fire destroys one vehicle, damages another parked at Sibu house car porch

SIBU (Oct 29): A predawn fire destroyed a vehicle parked at the car porch of a house here today and partially damaged another.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a report on the fire was received at 5.36am.

A team of 12 firefighters from the Sungai Merah fire station was then despatched to the scene located about 4km away.

“On arrival, it was found that the fire involved two cars – a Honda City, which suffered 100 per cent damage, and a Proton Saga which was 40 per cent damaged,” Bomba said in a statement.

The department said the heat emanating from the fire also damaged 5 per cent of the house’s structure, glass doors, and walls.

Firefighters used two streams of 200 feet, a pump, and water sourced from the hydrant to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire and value of damages have yet to be ascertained.
