Premier Abang Jo arrives in UAE for green investments, to depart for London on Dec 7

DUBAI, Dec 4: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, known internationally for being a strong proponent of action against climate change, has arrived here in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to join global efforts at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) today.

Upon his arrival at his hotel of residence in the central business district here, Abang Johari was received by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also the Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment and his deputy, Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, who both arrived the previous night (Dec 3).

Accompanying the Premier from Kuching were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohd Abu Bakar Marzuki and Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

According to a media release, a key highlight during the Premier’s visit is the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between Sarawak and Singapore entities scheduled for tomorrow (Dec 5) as part of the effort to attract investors to the State.

The ceremony marks a strategic collaboration between InvestSarawak and Surbana Jurong Pte Ltd that will pave the way for cooperation in areas encompassing critical aspects, including industry transformation, energy transition, industrial decarbonisation, Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) decarbonisation, and industrial park development and management.

On Wednesday (Dec 6), the Premier is scheduled to meet with Mubadala, a sovereign investment company headquartered in Abu Dhabi, to foster potential collaborations and investments within the energy transition sector.

Another MOU signing for the day is between Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (MASDAR), a leading global commercial enterprise in renewable energy and clean technologies from Qatar and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), highlighting a shared commitment to sustainable energy practices and the potential for strategic partnerships.

On Thursday (Dec 7), Abang Johari and members of his delegation are scheduled to depart for London to continue with the effort to highlight what Sarawak can offer to advance the green economy.

In London, they will engage in further discussions on business investment and networking programmes, emphasising Sarawak’s dedication to expanding international partnerships and attracting investments for sustainable development. — DayakDaily
