KUCHING (Nov 19): Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has announced a contribution of RM1.3 million to the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati).

He said RM1 million would come from Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) and RM300,000 from the state government.

“I would like to announce here that Petros would give RM1 million to Sabati for it to continue with its charity work. The state government would also give RM300,000 to Sabati.

“I already discussed this with the state Cabinet members,” he said in his speech for the opening of Laila Gallery at Wisma Sabati in Petra Jaya, here today.

Elaborating, Abang Johari said this contribution to Sabati would go into providing educational assistance for the schoolchildren in the rural areas, as well as complementing Sabati and Petronas’s social programme focusing on health.

In this regard, he highlighted this as a reflection of the state government’s commitment to improving the well-being of the people.

Adding on, Abang Johari said Petros, the state-owned oil company, had registered healthy revenue growth.

“Petros now is the third largest oil company in Malaysia. So, it will donate RM1 million (to Sabati),” he said.

Also present at the event were Abang Johari’s wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang who is also Sabati president; Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; and former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu.

The Laila Gallery was established to showcase the history and activities of Sabati since it was established on Aug 6, 1982.
