KUALA LUMPUR: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg arrived in the national capital here on Thursday morning to attend the National Physical Planning Council (MPFN) meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Accompanying him at the meeting were Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Land and Survey Department Sarawak director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood.
The MPFN, established under Section 2A(1) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1976 (Amendment) 2001, [Act A1129], is the highest council responsible for coordinating and balancing power between the federal government and state government in matters of town and village planning.
This is in line with the provisions of the Federal Constitution, which lists town and village planning under the Concurrent List in the Ninth Schedule, where both the federal government and state government have authority in this matter.
The MPFN is chaired by the Prime Minister and comprises all Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers as well as Ministers responsible for town and village planning.
