KUCHING, Sept 22: Sarawak is looking to Budget 2027 to translate commitments under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) into concrete financial allocations, with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg expressing hope that matters already agreed upon will be implemented through the federal budget.

Abang Johari said Sarawak particularly hoped for the funding injections discussed under MA63 to be reflected in Budget 2027, which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to table on Oct 9.

“Our hope is that what has been discussed under MA63 can be implemented, particularly in terms of the funding injections,” he told reporters after the Sarawak SOEs Transformation Programme – Phase 2: A Pledge for Good Governance, High Performance & Value Creation ceremony held at a hotel here today.

Asked whether Sarawak was expecting an increase in federal allocations, Abang Johari said the matter would depend on Anwar’s announcement when Budget 2027 is tabled.

Meanwhile, on whether some Sarawak-owned enterprises (SOEs) could see their funding injections discontinued, Abang Johari said the matter would be clarified when Sarawak Budget 2027 is tabled.

“Wait for the budget. The matter will be explained later based on the direction and policies that have been outlined previously,” he said.

The Sarawak Legislative Assembly’s (DUS) 19th term is expected to conclude with its Oct 12–21 sitting, in which the Sarawak Budget 2027 is expected to be tabled. — DayakDaily
