Product registration under Desamall exceeds ministry’s target

KUCHING: A total of 6,000 products have been registered under Desamall, a marketing platform under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) as of this month.

Deputy Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang said the figure exceeded her ministry’s initial target for the total amount of products were 5,000 products.

“As we can see, Desamall is not just a platform under our ministry but also they have been partnering with other strategic partners such as Lazada, Shopee and MyMall.

“This is part of our efforts to ensure a wider marketing for all the products created by our rural entrepreneurs,” she told a press conference after officiating at the opening ceremony of Program Pendigitalan Usahawan (PPU) at Penview Convention Centre here today.

“Apart from that, we are also partnering with several bank institution such as Bank Islam, Bank Simpanan Nasional andMaybank in providing funds for the rural entrepreneurs.

“This an exposure for them and also provides financial assistance to them for the entrepreneurs to develop the quantity and the quality of the product, thus widening their market as well,” she added.

Speaking further on the PPU programme, Rubiah said it received quite a positive review from the National Audit Department Malaysia.

“The programme also receives a great response from the rural entrepreneurs.

“And we hope that such programme can be held further in the future so that it could open the door to all the other rural entrepreneurs to gain knowledge, especially in improving their business,” she added.

There are 67,508 rural entrepreneurs registered under the ministry all across Malaysia, to which 85 per cent of them are PICO Enterprises, which their annual profit is RM60,000 and below.

Among those present during the press conference were KKDW Sarawak director Mohd Syafiq Anas Abdullah and secretary of Community Economic Development Division (KKDW) Mohd Sabri Ramly.
