KUCHING: Teaching the achievement and maintenance of peace from a young age is vital.
Bandar Kuching MP, Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen said this process involves fostering understanding, cooperation, and goodwill among people.
“Peace is a state of tranquility or quietness, often characterised by the absence of disturbance, conflict, or violence. It can refer to both inner calm and external harmony between individuals, communities, or nations.
“I am delighted to witness the wholehearted engagement of primary school students, particularly their grasp of the event’s theme, ‘Peace.’,” he said after attending the closing ceremony and prize-giving of the Primary School Speech Competition by the Malaysia Dynamic Community Association at Boulevard Shopping Mall on Saturday.
Dr. Yii highlighted the importance of peace education, noting that it often involves celebrating diversity and promoting inclusivity.
“Students learn to appreciate differences in culture, ethnicity, religion, and perspectives, contributing to a more harmonious and accepting society,” he added.
