MIRI (Aug 27): The contractor for the Pan Borneo Highway project has removed a screw thread protruding from a flyover bridge joint in the Suai area yesterday, following complaints by a netizen on Facebook.
Public Works Department (JKR) Miri divisional engineer Stephen Ung said action was taken after the issue was brought to the attention of the contractor, who responded immediately to the situation.
“Rectification works have been completed. The operation concluded at about 1pm today,” he told The Borneo Post.
In a Facebook post, Lai Siong Ang warned road users of the screw thread which is used to strengthen the flyover bridge to the road.
“A screw thread can be seen protruding from the surface of the Pan Borneo Highway. Be careful when passing through the flyover bridge,” it said in the post.
In the comment section of the post, netizens stated the possibility of an accident due to vehicle tyre puncture; thus, urged relevant authorities to address the issue immediately.
