SIBU (Sept 12): Party Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) is looking to recruit more members, especially from the professional and elite group.
Its Women’s chief Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie said the party needs the service and commitments of these professionals to push the party forward.
“We do have the support from these groups but a lot of them are preoccupied with their work and we need more of these professionals who are really committed to join the party,” she said.
Doris was speaking when officiating at the Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie Futsal Challenge Cup at Kampong Nangka Futsal court today.
Also present was Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana.
Doris said the party is also looking at attracting youngsters over the age of 18 to join.
“At the last Triennial Delegation Conference (TDC), there was a motion for a new party wing Pewaris to be formed.
“We are not waiting for the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to give us the green light to form Pewaris,” she said.
Meanwhile, on the futsal competition, Doris said sporting activities like this is an important platform to help strengthen the spirit of brotherhood among party members.
“It is also a venue for the politicians to relax their mind and build a healthier body.
“As such, we ought to get involved in more sporting programs so that it will help release tension and help build the spirit of sportsmanship among the people,” she said.
The Sri Aman MP said the Doris Sophia Brodie Challenge Cup, which was first held in Sri Aman in 2017, was then to be hosted by Kapit before it had to be postponed due Covid-19 pandemic.
“In 2022, it was staged in Bintulu and after which, Anyi suggested it be brought to Sibu,” she added.
Doris hoped the two-day competition would help foster closer rapport among the players, especially members from the PRS Women’s section.
