Public urged not to speculate on bomb hoax

KUCHING: Members of the public are advised to refrain from speculating on the bomb hoax received by SMK Kuching High via email on Wednesday.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief Milton Foo made the call after he was notified of the incident by the school’s board chairman Johnny Lim.

“At this juncture, it is best not to speculate, be it a mere mischief or a genuine act of terrorism.

“We should give room to the police for a thorough investigation. The safety of the children and teachers is of utmost importance and should be the top priority,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to the police for their prompt action in closing down the school before 3pm and dispatching a team to investigate the incident.

Foo meets with the police, the school management board and staff members.

Foo shared that at 11.30am Wednesday, the school received an email allegedly from ‘ISIS My’, warning of a bomb threat at 3pm, using the explosive substance type C4.

“For safety reasons, the school immediately lodged a police report at Padungan police station and notified parents via a WhatsApp circular to pick up their children.

“The afternoon classes were also cancelled,” he said.

He pointed out that the school has entrusted the police with the investigation, prioritising the safety of students and teachers.

The school will also adhere to the advice and instructions of the police pertaining to the safety of the school.
