LAWAS: The Punang Nature Walk project signifies the Northern Region Development Agency’s (NRDA) commitment to promote  and accelerate the socioeconomic progress of the community here.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the project, situated at Punang Beach, is poised to become another tourist attraction.

“The project, which costs RM1.2 million, began in Aug 2020 and was completed on June 27 last year.

“It includes the construction of new public amenities such as toilets, changing and shower facilities, benches, a waste disposal centre, barbecue areas, camping grounds, paved roads, parking spaces, and walkways,” he said when officiating at the Punang Nature Walk here recently.

The NRDA chairman added that other projects that enhance Kampung Punang’s tourism appeal, such as the Tahai fish smokehouse and the fish and shrimp breeding scheme, have the potential to nurture new agro and aquaculture entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni said the Sarawak government has allocated RM36 million for various development projects in Kampung Punang.

“The funding supports four completed projects and two ongoing ones,” he said.

Among those present were NRDA director Datuk Ubaidillah Abdul Latip and Limbang Resident Unus Tambi.
