Pusan National University students complete programme at Curtin Malaysia

MIRI: Eight students from Pusan National University, Busan, South Korea, have successfully concluded a two-week Travel Writing and Photography short course at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) as part of the university’s overseas Summer/Winter Programme.

The participants, Kim Hyun Joon, Dayeon Kang, Chae-a Lee, Hong Yuna, Yuri Hong, See Hyun Jeon, Minji Kim, and Ji Yoo Lee, are all undergraduate students majoring in media and communications studies.

“The short course, held from Jan 8 to 20, transcended technical skills, providing the students with an immersive experience.

“They honed their writing and photography techniques while exploring the diverse cultural tapestry of Sarawak.

“The journey encompassed a captivating city tour, a mesmerising visit to Niah National Park, and an authentic experience in a traditional longhouse at Sungai Asap, Belaga,” Curtin Malaysia highlighted in a press release.

Curtin Malaysia added that the Travel Writing and Photography short course is a practical, customizable, intensive, and study-abroad programme.

“It equips students to source and craft publishable travel feature articles, teaching them to research compelling stories, hone interviewing skills, master writing techniques, and pitch their ideas.
“In addition to writing skills, students learn the technicalities of compelling photography, including composing and framing shots to enrich their articles.

”The course introduces and examines debates and discourses of travel writing as a genre, enabling students to navigate ethical practices and handle contentious topics responsibly.”

Curtin Malaysia expressed enthusiasm about the success of the programme, stating, “It’s heartening to see students from Pusan National University embrace the opportunity to expand their horizons through travel, writing, and photography.
