MIRI (Sept 21): Employees of a supermarket at Jalan Ilmu Senadin here sprang into action this afternoon, working tirelessly to extinguish a van fire near their premises before the fire department’s arrival.

Lutong Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Station Chief, Senior Fire Officer II Henry Jugah, said his team received an emergency call at around 2.24pm.

“A team of six firemen from the station rushed to the scene which was about 10 kilometers away from the station.

“Upon arrival, it was found that the fire involved a van, and the fire was almost completely extinguished by employees of a nearby supermarket using five units of dry dust type fire extinguishers,” he said in a statement.

Henry said the firefighters inspected the scene and proceeded to extinguish the remaining flames.

“After ensuring that the fire was completely extinguished and the situation was safe, the operation ended at 3.08pm,” he said.
