KUCHING, Nov 27: The mention of the case brought by Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib and Dato Sri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib against Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib and RHB Investment Bank Berhad, commenced in the High Court with a focus on several applications.

Sulaiman and Bekir are seeking a court injunction against Raghad to halt the transfer of shares from a company to her.

The plaintiff’s counsel Alvin Chong and co-counsel Jonathan Tay, addressed the Court on Enclosure 132, particularly emphasising the proposed joinder of the third defendant, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who is married to Raghad.

Raghad’s defense counsel, Shankar Ram Asnani conveyed to the Court that the defendant sought to engage a new law firm to take over the proceedings. However, details about the transition were pending, awaiting communication from the new legal representations.

Defense counsel Alvin Yong who is also appearing for Raghad, also informed the Court that Taib will be making a written representation to the State Attorney General’s Chambers to appear but not to act for him, more as an amicus and to address constitutional points which may arise.

In a separate matter, Chong extended a request to Azlina who is Raghad’s other counsel, to consider discharging herself from the case. The request was based on recent affidavits, evidence, and representations suggesting that Azlina possessed certain documents and had witnessed and certified documents related to the dispute. Azlina informed the court she will discuss with all counsels for Raghad and will seek further instructions from their client.

High Court Judicial Commissioner Alexander Siew How Wai fixed the next mention date on December 6.

The plaintiffs are represented by counsels Chong and Tay. Raghad is represented by counsels Shankar Ram, Yu Ying Ying, Yong, Shirleen Ong and Azlina. The second defendant RHB Investment Bank Berhad is represented by counsels Tan Kee Heng and Lesley Ling Lyn. — DayakDaily
