KUCHING, 14 Sept: Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts of Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is pleased with the progress of the second day celebration of Malaysia Day 2026 at Borneo Kuching Convention Centre (BCCK), today.
He said the preparations of the participants including dancers and vows readers were going well, thus showing that they are in a good state of readiness for the summit on 16 September.
"Everything was going well and for me, those who were performing that day, especially the dancers and others as well as the vows readers, all seemed to be going well.
"This shows that they are ready for the big day, which is on September 16, Malaysia Day", he said.
He said this to TVS after spending more than two hours watching the celebration of Malaysia Day in BCCK, on Sunday.
According to Abdul Karim, this year's celebration of Malaysia Day is especially special when Sarawak hosts it, besides attending a row of country and state leaders.
Among them are the elderly Sarawak State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Chief Minister Sabah Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Additionally, this year's celebration also has its own significance as Malaysia was formed in 1963 and is now entering its 63rd anniversary.
Thus, he described the number 63 as something unique and special, adding to the popularity of this year's Malaysia Day celebrations.
Sambutan Hari Malaysia is also expected to continue to spread the spirit of unity and commemorate the history of Malaysian formation involving Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.-TVS
