SIBU (July 29): The mouth-watering ‘Ikan Dua Rasa’ (Two-Flavour Fish) and ‘Ayam Pansuh’ (Chicken in Bamboo) earned the Red Team the win in the KTS Sport Carnival 2024 cooking competition here yesterday.

The respective runners-up were the Black Team, Yellow Team and Blue Team.

Harrison Mate Pak, who prepared the ‘Ayam Pansuh’, said it did not take him long to come up with the dish.

“It took me about half an hour to cook it. I learned how to cook this dish from my longhouse, Rumah Jamba Sungai Iran, in Song. I am currently living in Sibu Jaya.

“I usually cook this dish during special occasions such as the New Year and Gawai Dayak,” he said when met after the prize presentation.

Harrison’s team-mate Ling Ee Kyii prepared the ‘Ikan Dua Rasa’ dish.

The judges of the competition were Thomas’ Corner chef Ngu Kwong Teck and Mohd Khairil Azhar Budiman.

When met, Kelab KTS Sibu chairman Benny Lau said each team comprised eight members, with each instructed to prepare two dishes – one fish, and the other, chicken.

“They’re free to cook in any style that they prefer – Chinese, Malay, Iban or others; it’s up to them.”

On the team names based on colours, Lau said this grouping format was initiated last year, different from the classification according to companies that was practised previously.

“We want everyone to mix and mingle, to strengthen the rapport among the staff members irrespective of backgrounds,” he added.

Kelab KTS Sibu vice-chairman Michael Ting was also present.
