ADVERTISE HERE
MIRI (Sept 28): The Lutong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Lutong) is encouraged to organise an open day to introduce its services, purview and jurisdiction to residents living within its vicinity.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau said an open day is a fun way of educating local residents the importance of knowing where the nearest fire and rescue station is for an easier time seeking help during emergencies.
“BBP Lutong is located strategically in the Kuala Baram area. The population here is also predicted to increase with upcoming developments, therefore educating the local residents of services they can seek during emergencies is crucial,” he said when officiating the BBP Lutong Sepak Takraw competition’s closing ceremony today.
During the event, Dennis contributed RM7,000 to the BBP Lutong Club Fund in support of future activities.
Meanwhile, BBP Lutong chief Henry Jugah in his remarks revealed BBP Lutong is still short of manpower to cope with the increasing demand of emergency response services in its areas.
“Technically, a station should have 28 personnel but we currently have 17. So for today’s competition, we were only able to form four teams. We are still short of six fire officers and five auxiliary fire officers,” he said.
The second edition of the competition is an annual sports event to improve teamwork among firefighters.
“If possible, we would like to also identify talented players among our officers — perhaps they can play a bigger tournament in the future,” he said.
Henry said BBP Lutong was only established 15 months ago and has yet to have courts for sepak takraw, volleyball and badminton as they are presently using bare ground as a court.
“Our facilities are still lacking — Dato Dennis can see for himself when the game starts,” he said.
