KUCHING: The improvement of the drainage system and road safety in Satok constituency is assured as reaffirmed by its assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

During his visit to the drain upgrading project near Rubber Road here, he was informed that the project progress was affected due to technical issues, leading to the stagnation of water in the project site.

Therefore, he urged the implementing agency, Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and the appointed contractor to resolve the issues that were affecting the project to ensure its timely completion.

“This project is important to upgrade the drainage here at Rubber Road which will cover the drain so as it will not be exposed and become a sight for sore eyes,” he said.

Acting on public complaints, he also visited Lorong Nanas 2 to inspect the drainage problem near the parking lot in the area.

Looking at the situation, he urged the DBKU to rectify the issue by upgrading the parking dividers to improve safety of car users and avoid incidents.

He emphasised the importance to avoid untoward incidents among the people when using the facilities in the area as well as to contribute towards the beautification of the area overall.

“The aspect of road safety and beautification is something we are working to ensure in Satok, not only here in Rubber Road and Nanas Road, but the entire constituency,” he said.

Meanwhile, touching on the installation of the traffic poles near a shoplot in Rubber Road as well as repainting the nearby road dividers, Ibrahim thanked DBKU for their effort.

“Previously, there was a complaint by a shop owner about the occurrence of accidents near the junction in front of his shop.

“He informed me that the DBKU acted promptly to install the traffic divider poles and repainted the road dividers. This has improved the safety in the area and hopefully prevent similar incidents in the future,” he said.

Also present during the site visit were DBKU director Mohamed Khaidir Abang; DBKU deputy director Mohamad Faisal Adenan and DBKU infrastructure maintenance division head Zaidi Pathi.
