KUCHING (Aug 9): Residents around Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho here are appealing to the authorities concerned to remove overgrown grass on the pavement on both sides of the road.

Spokesman Michael Lim said a complaint was filed to the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) in February.

“According to a reply received via WhatsApp on Feb 6 from the MBKS complaints line, the maintenance of the pavement comes under the Public Works Department (JKR).

“The person who replied said the complaint would be forwarded to JKR. However, it is now August and nothing has been done to remove the grass,” he told The Borneo Post.

According to him, the same complaint was also sent to Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

Residents jog on the pavement covered with grass at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho.

Lim stressed there should be no grass on the pavement as it is a vital facility for those living in the surrounding residential estates.

“Instead of passing the buck, someone must take responsibility and address this issue.

“The pavement is a used by residents for their daily walks and runs. The poor maintenance is a safety hazard. The road is extremely busy and you cannot expect residents to run or walk on the road,” he lamented.
