SIBU: Retired teachers are encouraged to continue contributing to the education sector of the country.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said that retirement should not be seen as the end of their contribution.

“The country’s education sector has expanded widely, offering various opportunities for those with expertise to continue contributing to the education of this country,” Tiong said during the Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) Sibu’s retirement programme at a hotel here today (Dec 2).

Represented by Councillor Joshua Ting Fu Ying, who delivered his speech, he pointed out that retirement provides the freedom to engage in activities that were previously constrained by work commitments.

He also highlighted that the retirement programme for educationists is a standard practice in educational organisations, aiming to honour their service and contributions.

“The place where you fell is remembered, this is also the place to play. It will certainly leave beautiful memories that will be etched in your memory forever,” Tiong added.

A total of 52 retired teachers from STU here were celebrated for their dedication and service at this event.

Also present were Political Secretary to the Premier William Anut, STU Treasurer Chan Chew Sze, STU Sibu chairman Yong Sie Hing and Sibu Division Secondary Schools’ Principal Association chairman David Teo Wu.
