SERIAN: Local MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem has called on project monitoring agencies under the Ministry of Human Resources to conduct an urgent visit to the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Serian.

He said the construction of the institute is fully completed and is only awaiting its official launch.

The project, he added, needs to wait for the Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) before it can be handed over to the government.

“The monitoring agency for ILP Serian is not the Sarawak JKR but the Ministry of Human Resources.

“I have submitted a request for at least the political secretary to visit the site. I have been there two or three times, and it is 100 per cent complete,” he said.

He told the media this after officiating at a presentation ceremony for incentives awarded to excellent Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) students from the Serian parliamentary constituency at Roxy Hotel today.

Riot asserted that a visit from the ministry is expected to expedite efforts to ensure the institution can open and operate by next year.

“There is no point in the building being 100 per cent complete if it is not operational. Therefore, I urge them to visit as soon as possible,” he stressed.

Additionally, Riot said that the new building is awaiting tenders for equipment supplies.

“Certainly, the institute needs to be equipped with advanced teaching materials and the latest equipment,” he said.

Built on a 22.9-hectare site, ILP Serian can accommodate 600 students at any one time.

The institute is expected to conduct its first intake in January 2025, opening more opportunities for the local community, especially after waiting for so long since its construction began in 2020.
