MIRI: Community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) must exemplify integrity and serve as role models for their communities.

Speaking at the Integrity Roadshow for the Lambir constituency here on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat stressed the importance of KMKK in monitoring development projects in their respective areas.

He emphasised that it is essential for KMKK to ensure projects are implemented according to specifications, with no deviations.

“KMKK must be the role models for their communities. They play a crucial role in overseeing development projects, ensuring these are completed according to set standards.

“They are also expected to report any irregularities or project delays so that appropriate actions can be taken,” he said.

In addition, Dr Ripin highlighted the role of KMKK, alongside the Village Development and Safety Committee (JKKK), as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the government.

“Beyond monitoring projects, KMKK must also be vigilant about social issues such as crime and drug abuse, which can undermine community integrity.

“Integrity is not just about economics and development, but also about the overall well-being and safety of society.”

Dr Ripin also stressed the collective responsibility in promoting integrity across all sectors, including the government, private sector and general public.

He expressed his continued support for initiatives aimed at fostering these values.

The Integrity Roadshow, organised by the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS) under the Sarawak Premier’s Department, was the fifth this year.

The event drew over 200 KMKK leaders and representatives from various government agencies.

Also present was Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya.
