KUCHING, Oct 10: Long before he became Sarawak Governor (TYT), Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar served in the Police Field Force under the Rajang Security Command (RASCOM), confronting security threats during a defining period in Sarawak’s history.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg highlighted this chapter of the Governor’s life during his speech at the Grand Parade and Rally held in conjunction with Tun Wan Junaidi’s 80th birthday celebration at Padang Merdeka today.

He described the Governor’s willingness to risk his life in confronting communist elements as a significant sacrifice in safeguarding Sarawak’s peace and security.

“The service of Tuan Yang Terutama Tun in defending Sarawak’s peace while serving in the Police Field Force in the Rajang Security Command, or RASCOM, is part of a history of sacrifice that must not be forgotten,” he said.

Abang Johari said the TYT’s willingness to put his life on the line in the fight against communist elements would remain part of his legacy in Sarawak’s history.

Beyond his security service, Tun Wan Junaidi went on to pursue a career in law before entering politics and serving in the Federal Cabinet and as President of the Dewan Negara.

The Premier said the State Governor’s experience in security, law, constitutional affairs and national administration had given him a broad perspective on the governance of Sarawak and Malaysia. — DayakDaily
