SIBU (July 10): The government has allocated a sum of RM1.92 billion for road upgrading and road development projects under the 12th and 13th Malaysia Plan (MP), said Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.

In stating this, the deputy minister for Infrastructure and Port Development said out of that total allocation, RM317.4 million worth of projects are currently under implementation.

He said this during a press conference after the briefing of the road projects in Sibu at the Public Works Department here today.

“The RM1.603 billion worth of projects has been approved and will be implemented soon, so altogether there will be RM1.92 billion worth of projects, and these projects will be implemented towards the end of 12MP and to continue during the 13MP in 2026,” he said.

“So far, the projects that have been implemented are progressing well and no project is being categorised as sick projects or with any terminated contract.

“Most of the projects are on schedule and only a few projects are delayed but this can be resolved,” he said.

Adding on, he said the Jalan Teku Pasai-Siong connecting to Kemunyang will be implemented under ‘Projek Rakyat’.

“From UTS (Universiti Teknologi Sarawak) roundabout until Pasai Siong, the road will be developed into a dual carriageway and the road at Desa Kemunyang will also be upgraded,” he said.

The 7.5km Jalan Kong Yit Khim – Jalan Salim road construction project, meanwhile, is expected to be completed at the end of this year, he added.

Also present at the press conference and briefing session were Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee and Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.
