RM12.84 mln SK Kampung Baru Kapit upgrade reflects Sarawak-federal commitment to rural education

KAPIT, June 27: The completion of the RM12.84 million SK Kampung Baru here under the RM1 billion allocation Phase 1 initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Sarawak government and the federal government in strengthening education infrastructure development and ensuring that every student in Sarawak has access to quality, safe, and standards-compliant learning facilities.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today visited the fully completed school redevelopment project, which was carried out under the Dilapidated School Redevelopment Programme in Sarawak and completed in November 2025.

Upon arrival, the Premier was received by Public Works Department (JKR) Sarwak director Datu Ir Dr Cassidy Morris, who later briefed him on the scope of works, implementation progress, and the project’s impact on students, teachers, and the surrounding community.

According to a statement today, JKR Sarawak stated that the redevelopment project, which commenced in 2021, involved the construction of a four-storey academic block and a four-storey administration block equipped with Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) systems.

The works also included supporting infrastructure such as retaining walls, reinforced concrete pedestrian walkways, drainage systems, and perimeter fencing.

The upgraded facilities now provide a safer, more modern and conducive learning environment for 260 students and 43 teachers and staff, replacing ageing structures that were previously deemed unsuitable for continued use.

During the visit, Abang Johari inspected the completed facilities and expressed appreciation to all parties involved in ensuring the successful delivery of the project, particularly in efforts to uplift rural education infrastructure. — DayakDaily
