MIRI, Sept 12: The upcoming RM341.17 million Marina Bridge project is set to cut travel time between Miri city center and Kampung Pulau Melayu from 25 minutes to just five minutes upon its completion in May 2029.

Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo said the 650 metre cable-stayed bridge will shave off approximately 20 minutes from the current commute, vastly improving local connectivity and traffic flow.

Construction on the project officially commenced in May 2026 under a 36-month contract, which also includes road construction and essential supporting infrastructure.

“Beyond enhancing connectivity, the bridge’s distinctive cable-stayed design will add significant architectural value to Miri’s urban landscape, transforming it into a new landmark and tourist attraction,” he told reporters following a working visit and site briefing here today.

He stressed that the project area will remain off-limits to the public throughout the construction period to safeguard public safety and facilitate the smooth execution of road and structural works.

The Marina Bridge project was among the high-impact infrastructure developments announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the Sarawak Day 2025 celebrations.
