Road closure around Kuching Waterfront from Oct 13 to Nov 4

KUCHING: Several roads leading to the Kuching Waterfront will undergo temporary closures and traffic diversions from Oct 13 to Nov 4 to facilitate the Sarawak Regatta 2026 and Kuching Waterfront Festival 2026. 

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the main event will take place at the Kuching Waterfront from Oct 23 to Nov 1. 

To facilitate the setup and dismantling of tents and event infrastructure, the stretch from Jalan Gambier to Jalan Main Bazaar will be closed starting from 8 am on Oct 13 until 12 am on Nov 4.

For the opening ceremony of the Sarawak Regatta and Kuching Waterfront Festival on Oct 23, road closures will take place in two phases. 

From 7 am to 6 pm, affected roads include Lebuh Wayang to Jalan Main Bazaar, Lebuh Temple to Lebuh Wayang, the slip road and traffic light junction at St Mary leading to Lebuh Wayang, and the slip road and traffic light junction at Jalan Pearl to Jalan Wawasan. 

A second closure will be implemented on the same day from 12 pm to 6 pm affecting the route from Jalan Gambier to Jalan Main Bazaar. 

For the opening ceremony of Festival Gendang 2026 on Oct 31, closures will be in effect from 6 pm to 11 pm. 

The affected routes include Simpang Lebuh Java, Jalan Market to Jalan Gambier, Lebuh Java to Jalan Gambier, Jalan Courthouse to Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Gambier to Jalan Main Bazaar and Jalan Barrack to Jalan Courthouse.

Meanwhile, during the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Regatta and Kuching Waterfront Festival on Nov 1, closures will again occur in two phases. 

The stretch from Lebuh Wayang to Jalan Main Bazaar will be closed from 7 am to 6 pm. Additional closures from 12 pm to 6 pm will affect Lebuh Temple to Lebuh Wayang, the St Mary slip road/traffic light heading to Lebuh Wayang, and the Jalan Pearl slip road/traffic light heading to Jalan Wawasan.

Alexson advised road users to plan their journeys ahead and use alternative routes to minimize traffic congestion. 

“Members of the public attending the event are urged not to park their vehicles along the road shoulders,” he said.
