KUCHING, June 29: The Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) stands guided by directives of the Sarawak Sports Commissioner and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS).
In saying this, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Dato Husain, who helmed SBA for almost 15 years, in a statement today, said he is clarifying the recent confusion on the Judicial Review dated May 17 May relating to the official office-in-bearer for SBA.
According to him, the Judicial Review is against the decision of the Sarawak Regional Sports Commissioner and the Federal Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia in endorsing the current committee of SBA under him as President of SBA, together with his elected and appointed committee.
“Following that, Sarawak Regional Sports Commissioner, together with Hannah Yeoh as the Federal Minister of Youth and Sports, have, through the Attorney General’s Chambers Malaysia Sarawak (AGC), filed an Appeal to the Court of Appeal on June 13 on the above decision made by the Judicial Review,” he said.
Abdul Aziz iterated that he and the committee under the governance of the Sarawak Regional Sports Commissioner will respect the final official decision of the esteemed Sports Commissioner’s office.
“In the meantime, before receiving any official notification from the Sports Commissioner, we will continue to run SBA in the best interest of the development of the sports of badminton in Sarawak,” he added.
On another development, Abdul Aziz said he and his committee had received all-round support from many other relevant sports authorities at the Federal and Sarawak levels.
He also said that the chief executive officer (CEO) cum director of Sarawak Sports Council Awang Putra Yusrie Awang Redzuan, with the blessings from Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, has on June 20 issued an official letter of recognition to him.
He pointed out that his committee, under the existing leadership, was encouraged to continue managing SBA until an official decision was made by the Sarawak Regional Sports Commissioner regarding the present situation.
“The national badminton governing body, Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM), also issued an official letter to him and his committee on June 25.
“The letter from BAM had clearly stated that it will continue working with the current committee of SBA as the matter is being reviewed in the Court of Appeal,” he added. — DayakDaily
