KUCHING, July 14: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has seized RM250,000 worth of bird’s nests imported without permits from Sabah.

SFC, in a statement today, said the seizure was made on July 12 at 9am during Ops Khazanah held together with the Royal Malaysian Customs, Region 5 Marine police, and Pos Malaysia.

“Following intelligence conducted, 17 boxes suspected of containing 250kg of swiftlet nests brought from Sabah without import permits from the Wildlife Controller were detained at Pos Aviation Malaysia in Kuching.

“A suspect was also detained in a warehouse for being involved in the smuggling process,” it said.

SFC added that the case is being investigated under Section 29(2) and Section 31 of the Wildlife Ordinance 1998. — DayakDaily
