TATAU (Sept 6): Ten village security and development committees (JKKK) and five students pursuing tertiary studies received minor rural project (MRP) grants and education incentives, respectively, during a ceremony here yesterday.

The grants and incentives were presented by Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, who is Kakus assemblyman.

The MRP grants totalled RM112,000, while the students, who are pursuing their bachelor’s degree at public universities, each received a one-time incentive of RM1,000 to support their studies.

“I urge all JKKKs to use the MRP funds wisely, especially to purchase materials to improve their longhouses. As for the students, I hope the incentives will assist and encourage you in your educational pursuit,” he said in his brief remarks.

Sikie also called on all parents in Kakus constituency to prioritise their children’s education as a means to a brighter future.

Meanwhile, it was informed that MRP grants are being distributed in stages to JKKKs in Kakus constituency, comprising over 400 longhouses in the districts of Mukah, Selangau and Tatau.
