KUCHING (July 30): The Sarawak Transport Ministry will be going on a working trip to South Korea to meet with the Incheon International Airport Corporation management team soon.

In a statement from the ministry, its minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said he will lead a delegation to South Korea to meet with their airport management to delve deeper into the details of airport management, and explore potential future collaboration.

He said this when receiving a courtesy call from the South Korean delegation on July 25 at his office here.

During the meeting, the South Korean airport management team shared their experiences and strategies in the transformative journey of the airport since 1989.

The key highlights included the strategic considerations for site selection, construction phases, and budget strategies that have contributed to making Incheon one of the world’s leading airports.

The Sarawak Transport Ministry said the presentation underscored the airport’s pivotal role in South Korea’s economic growth, particularly following the Seoul Olympics in 1988, and the significant increase in per capita GDP over the decades.

Other matters discussed included potential areas of collaboration with the Sarawak Government.

Representing Incheon International Airport Corporation were its Future Business Division vice president Chang-Kyu Kim, its Overseas Business Group director Martin Song, its Overseas Business Group assistant manager Yoonhee Ha, its Airport Construction Planning Team manager Sang-Hoon Kim, and its Economic Regulatory and Administrative Consulting CEO and former South Korea Construction and Transportation vice minister Se Ho Kim.

Also present were Invest Sarawak CEO Timothy Ong and other senior officers.
