KUCHING (Aug 6): Sarawak and the United States are out to establish a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the transition to clean energy, says the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability.

This was highlighted in a statement released yesterday, in connection with Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni receiving a courtesy call froma delegation representing the US Department of Energy.

“This visit represents a significant milestone in enhancing energy cooperation between Sarawak and the US. It focuses on expanding the collaboration through US government technical support, joint research initiatives, and industry partnerships.

“The key areas of emphasis include carbon capture, utilisation, and storage, fossil energy, green hydrogen, methane reduction, and critical minerals,” said Dr Hazland in the statement.

He also underscored the importance of this partnership in Sarawak’s transition towards becoming a low-carbon economy.

“We are excited to work closely with the US in exploring innovative solutions and developing a sustainable energy future for our state,” he added.

Also present were Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management assistant secretary Brad Crabtree and its senior international advisor Adam Wong; as well as the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur economic officer Cameron Millard and its commercial specialist Mohan Gurusamy.
