SIBU (Aug 24): Chinese entrepreneurs are welcome to invest in Sarawak’s green economy, which has received a lot of attention from around the world, said Datuk Michael Tiang.
The Deputy Minister of Public Housing, Housing and Local Government said the potential and development of green and clean energy is very profitable, leading to many countries sending their delegates to the state to explore potential investments.
“With Malaysia’s and China’s cultural environment very similar, we can form groups to communicate with each other and understand each other deeper, and our business opportunities will definitely succeed,” he said.
He was speaking at the opening of the Belt and Road Initiative forum held at the United Chinese Association (UCA) premises here today.
Among those present were UCA Sibu president Lau Ing Siong and prominent businessmen.
Looking back at the historic Belt and Road Initiative, Tiang said it formed the benchmark economic policies proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, and established China’s leading position in international economy, trade, finance and other fields.
“China is not what it used to be. Its powerful economic system has played a decisive role on the international stage, and its rise and influence in the world today cannot be denied.
“China is a peace-loving, free and friendly country, and the emergence of the Belt and Road Initiative has brought immeasurable effects to our country and other Asian nations especially in economy and construction, culture, tourism, and investment,” he said.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations with China 50 years ago in 1974, Tiang said the relationship between China and Malaysia has been that of “good neighbours, good friends and good partners”.
“No one can question the friendship between China and Malaysia. I am grateful for the great vision of the leaders of China and Malaysia which has allowed our nations to inherit a beautiful cooperative friendship,” he said.
