KOTA KINABALU: The construction of a five-star luxury resort, estimated to cost RM1bil, is set to boost tourism and job opportunities in Sabah.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the resort in Melingsung, Papar, will accelerate Sabah's hospitality and service industry.

"What is most important for Sabah is that such investments produce a multiplier effect to boost the economy," he said at the project’s ground-breaking ceremony on Monday (Nov 20).

Hajiji said the 450-room resort would create more than 500 employment opportunities and contribute to the growth of the tourism sector.

He said several hotels are already being built in Sabah in anticipation of the influx of more visitors.
