SIBU: The Sacred Heart Old Students’ Association (SHOSA) has handed over Malaysian Federation of LaSallian Associations (MFOLSA) assistance to Sacred Heart English Primary School.

According to the statement, SHOSA secretary Ignatius Lau handed over a stack of RM50 cash vouchers to the school’s students’ affairs senior assistant Suziana Basa for the purchase of shoes to aid the underprivileged students in the school.

In thanking MFOLSA for their kind effort, Lau said the vouchers would go a long way in helping pupils in need.

“Assistance in any form is appreciated and needed. SHOSA, which has mainly focused on the well-being of the secondary school, would like to take a closer look, this year, at the primary school as well. Funds permitting, we wish to do more,” he said.

Having identified four areas where SHOSA can explore further assistance in the field of transportation, spectacles, school uniforms and stationeries for the primary school pupils, Lau promised this matter would be included in SHOSA’s agenda during the forthcoming quarterly meeting.

“I am optimistic that fellow office bearers with members of the school alumni would rally together in aid of their primary school too.

“In fact, when we posted this in our office bearers’ chat, one of our office bearers immediately signaled that he was ready to take up the challenge of providing free spectacles for the underprivileged pupils,” he said.

For the record, SHOSA was formed in the late 1940s and is widely recognised amongst the active alumnis in Malaysia.

In 1976, it came together with four other alumnis – St. Joseph’s Old Boys Association, Kuching, Penang’s Old Xaverians Association, Taiping’s Old Georgians Association and Seremban’s Old Paulians Association to form MFOLSA.

Today MFOLSA is an umbrella organisation of 19 La Salle Alumni Associations of the La Salle Christian Brothers Schools in Malaysia.
