THE Sungai Asap Digital Village (SADV) project is expected to benefit about 20,000 residents across 117 longhouse blocks in Sungai Asap through improved access to digital services and technology.
Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang said the initiative was expected to narrow the digital divide and drive socioeconomic development among local communities.
“The SADV initiative is expected to reduce the digital divide and drive socioeconomic progress among local communities,” he said, adding the project would encourage the use of modern technology in smart farming, facilitate online banking and promote e-commerce among rural entrepreneurs.
“It is also expected to improve digital education for school students and provide easier access to e-government services,” he said in response to Kennedy Chukpai Ugon (GPS-Murum) during question and answer session on Thursday (Oct 15).
In addition, Liwan said the initiative would help boost tourism by promoting Sarawak’s unique ethnic traditions to a wider global audience.
Chukpai was asking on the main benefits of the SADV project for local communities and the number of residents expected to benefit from its implementation.
“About 20,000 residents from 16 main communities in Sungai Asap, comprising 117 longhouse blocks, are expected to benefit directly from this project,” he said.
