SPAOH, 18 Sept: Safety aspects are a priority in ensuring smooth flight operations at the Stolport Airport (STOLport) in Spaoh, Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embassy said.
He said that discussions with the relevant authorities were held today to detail security measures and preparations before flight operations are fully implemented.
"That's why today after we move back, they will be discussing the security measures taken including preparation of the measures taken here.
"Then after that, they will give us a permanent license and there is a set of rules or sets of SOPs that have been established on how to make sure the airport is safe", he said as he met with the media after witnessing the first flight landing test at Bebuling Airport (STOLport) in Spaoh today.
According to him, a set of rules or Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) have been established to ensure that the safety aspects at the airport are always observed.
In addition, the existence of a Bombing Station in Bebuling STOLport area is not only important for ensuring the safety of the facility but also potentially providing firefighting services and emergency assistance to nearby areas if necessary.
He added that discussions with the airport authorities will be held to ensure the facilities and strength of the bombing team can be utilized in case of any emergency.
"For all of us, Grandfather Gerald, my own Grandfather Richard and Grandfather Razi, we're so glad that we don't have to apply for a gas station anymore.
"We will talk to the airport authorities here that if there is a need for a bomb service, they may at that time be able to help so that it can be an added benefit to our citizens here", he explained. -TVS
