KUCHING (Aug 11): A total 370 projects have been approved by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) for the 10 state constituencies under its jurisdiction, said Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
Sagah, who is also GKCDA Steering Committee chairman, was cited in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report as saying that the cost of these projects amounted to RM1.5 billion, as allocated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“Of these 370 projects, seven projects have already been given to contractors, 11 projects have been tendered, 84 projects are ready to be tendered and the remaining 268 projects are in planning which covers various stages of implementation such as the appointment of consultants and the preparation of Bill of Quantities (BQ)
“The projects implemented in GKCDA areas are people-oriented and aim to improve the quality of life of the local community, in line with the GKCDA’s tagline which is ‘Development for the People’,” he said during the ground-breaking ceremony for village road upgrading project in Kampung Serayan Baru, Lundu yesterday.
The project costing RM9.68 million, is the first GKCDA project launched in Opar constituency, one of the 10 constituencies under the agency.
The other constituencies are Tanjung Datu, Tasik Biru, Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Tebedu, Bukit Semuja, Kedup and part of Balai Ringin.
Meanwhile, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said this project will benefit 1,815 houses from 50 villages in Lundu district.
He added that apart from the project to upgrade the roads in the village, various other projects will also be implemented through GKCDA allocation which cost a total of almost RM144.93 million.
