KUCHING: Workforce upskilling and reskilling are necessary to leverage the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0), says Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

He said investments in education and training programmes are crucial to equipping employees with the skills needed to thrive in this advanced technological landscape.

“IR4.0 is a transformative force that will shape the future industrial landscape of this state.

“Therefore, it is crucial to leverage innovation and adapt our strategies to seize opportunities in this promising era.”

He said this through a text speech read by ministry deputy permanent secretary Anielia Siam, during the handover ceremony of welding equipment by JX Nippon Oil and Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Limited to Sarawak Skills at the Automotive and Welding Institute of Sarawak (AWISAR) here today (June 27).

Sagah also highlighted that IR4.0 offers exceptional opportunities to streamline operations, enhance productivity, and create more sustainable and efficient industries.

He noted that concepts like automation, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are no longer futuristic but practical tools that can drive growth and competitiveness.

He also stressed the importance of technological advancements and the integration of sustainable practices to ensure industries remain relevant and responsible.

“I encourage industry players to share knowledge to drive collective growth. By leveraging your unique strengths and perspectives, a stronger and more resilient industry can be created.”

Sagah further mentioned that Sarawak’s economy is on a consistent growth trajectory, driven by its rich natural resources, including oil and gas, timber, and agriculture. These industries play a crucial role in strengthening the state’s economy and providing a solid foundation for future development.

“With a strong commitment to sustainable practices, fostering innovation, and nurturing a skilled workforce, the state will be ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
