LUNDU: The recent Gawai Dayak closing ceremony served as a powerful symbol of unity, honouring the cultural traditions of the Dayak community, particularly the Salako people.

Held at the Kampung Sedaing Hall, the event drew participation from local leaders and residents, coming together to celebrate their rich heritage.

“This closing ceremony is not just a celebration; it’s an opportunity to foster the traditions and culture of the Salako community,” said Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang during the Je’ Begawe Ngan Pamimpin event.

Billy praised the villagers’ efforts in organising the programme, highlighting that despite its size, the village successfully showcased a strong sense of unity.

“This event is a testament to the close bonds of friendship within the village,” he added.

Beyond cultural celebration, Billy addressed upcoming development projects aimed at improving the village’s infrastructure.

He urged villagers’ patience as they await the implementation of the upgrading the gravity pipe system and enhancing the irrigation system for the rice cultivation project.

These initiatives, spearheaded by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), are expected to commence soon.
