SIBU, June 27: Sarawak Water has confirmed that operations at the Salim Water Intake remain fully normal and unaffected following media reports of alleged animal carcasses discovered in a nearby tributary at the Salim-Stabau area, with investigations showing no contamination or operational disruption to the water supply system.
In a statement today, Sarawak Water said it immediately mobilised its operational team upon learning of the reports to conduct a site inspection and assessment in accordance with standard operating procedures to verify the situation and assess any potential impact on water quality and supply operations.
“Based on the findings of the site investigation, no abnormalities or incidents were detected within the operational boundary of the Salim Water Intake or any Sarawak Water facilities in the area,” it said.
The company further confirmed that the reported location lies outside its operational zone and does not involve any Sarawak Water assets or infrastructure.
“At present, the operations of the Salim Water Intake remain normal and unaffected. There has been no impact on the safety, quality or continuity of treated water supplied to consumers,” it added.
As part of its protocol, Sarawak Water has also informed the Ministry of Health Malaysia and the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak for their awareness and any further action deemed necessary.
The utility company added that it will continue to closely monitor the situation and maintain surveillance of the surrounding area as a precautionary measure to ensure the integrity of the water supply system.
Sarawak Water reiterated that safeguarding water quality remains its top priority, with comprehensive monitoring and treatment processes continuously carried out in line with regulatory and operational standards.
It also assured the public that any developments affecting consumers will be communicated promptly through official channels, and reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, reliable and quality water supply services to the people of Sarawak. — DayakDaily
