LUNDU: Residents in the Sangat area, especially in Kampung Pasir Tengah here will soon enjoy improved agricultural roads and a new concrete bridge.

In stating this, Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang, said that both projects are initiatives by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), the Public Works Department (PWD), and the Opar Service Centre to provide better amenities for the locals.

“The 800-metre road will be upgraded with a total allocation of RM1.7 million under the GKCDA initiative, and the existing wooden bridge will be rebuilt using funds from the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) totaling RM500,000.

“Through the upgrading of the existing road to an agricultural road and the construction of the bridge, not only will the residents in the area receive much-needed facilities, but it will also open opportunities for farmers and village residents to establish settlements in the area in the long term,” he explained.

He said this during a site visit to the Agricultural Road Upgrading Project in the Sangat area, Kampung Pasir Tengah, recently.

He added that this project would provide comprehensive benefits to the residents of Kampung Pasir Tengah because most of them use the existing dirt road, which is often impassable and prone to severe flooding during the monsoon season.

Billy also had the opportunity to visit the site of the Sedaing-Kendaie road, which has been approved for construction with an allocation of RM77 million by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW).

Due to the excess funds exceeding the original allocation, he stated that the Bukit Batu-Kendaie Road, spanning 800 metres, also needs to be upgraded using the funds from KKDW.

He mentioned that initially, the Sedaing-Kendaie Road was allocated RM60 million, and the surplus funds from KKDW could be channelled to other projects in the Opar area.
