KUCHING, 14 Sept: Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) together with Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC) through Logistics Productivity Nexus (LPN) today launchedCross-Border Operational Guidebook for Sarawak-Brunei-Sabah Transportation Efficiencyto facilitate the movement of goods and passengers throughout Borneo.
The launch of the guide book took place in conjunction with the BIMP-EAGA Land Transport MoUs Review & Stakeholder Workshop which was held for two days from today to tomorrow at one of the hotels here.
The workshop brought together government agencies, regulators, industry associations and transport operators to review the two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on BIMP-EAGA Land Transport involving cross-border movement of buses and commercial locomotives as well as transit and interstate freight.
Sarawak Transport Minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the manual was a practical reference by summarising the main requirements and procedures related to cross-border travel.
"It helps transport operators understand the necessary documents, permits, authorities and conditions, as well as being an up-to-date reference to changes in controls and operations.
"The guidebook should evolve from a mere procedural record to references supporting efforts to simplify, harmonise and digitise cross-border transport services", he explained.
He said efficient cross-border connectivity is essential for enhancing economic competitiveness, integration with the economies of neighbouring countries and providing a smoother travel experience to communities.
Lee said the two-day workshop needed to produce more solutions and improvements, not just a list of issues, with each proposal accompanied by follow-up actions and responsible parties.
"More efficient cross-border connections will facilitate trade and tourism, enhance supply chains, open up market access and connect communities across Borneo.
"Sarawak is committed to play an active role in building a more connected, efficient and competitive BIMP-EAGA Region through the cooperation of government, regulatory agencies and industry players", he said.
Lee also urged the workshop participants to boldly present real operational challenges, focus on practical solutions and ensure that agreed proposals can be translated into action.
