KUCHING: Sarawak is expected to experience ongoing rainfall until Jan 9.
Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said the weather situation is based on the weather model analysis which expects easterly wind concentration to occur in the state.
“This condition may result in increased humidity, potentially leading to continuous rain in the affected areas,” he said in a statement.
Other expected areas that would be affected include Pahang, Johor, and the east side of Sabah.
“Meanwhile, a strong wind and rough sea warning has also been issued, effective till Jan 8,” he said.
In other states, Muhammad Helmi said thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds are likely to occur from the afternoon until night.
The country is currently in the Northeast Monsoon season which is expected to continue until March.
It brings heavy rain especially to the states on the east coast of Malaya, west of Sarawak and east of Sabah.
The public is advised to consistently refer to the METMalaysia’s website www.met.gov.my and their official social media channels. Or they can download the myCuaca application for current and accurate information on weather updates.
